Beginning Your Diabetes Care with HCA Virginia
For your convenience, HCA Virginia offers outpatient diabetes care.
Contact our diabetes care center.
To receive counseling and education through our diabetes care center, your physician will need to provide us an order with a diagnosis of diabetes and his/her signature. Most insurance plans are accepted; however, you should always check with your insurer for specific coverage information.
Your First Visit
During your first visit, a diabetes educator will meet with you to identify your specific needs and tailor a lifestyle plan to fit those needs. We'll discuss any questions you may have, teach you the basics of diabetes and nutrition and help you develop a plan for managing your diabetes and staying healthy. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your first appointment to register and bring the following materials with you:
- A copy of your physician's order
- A list of all medications you currently take
- Your blood glucose monitoring equipment, if you'd like help using it
- Your blood glucose diary
- Insurance information and photo ID; most insurance plans are accepted
It's important to eat before your visit. You are welcome to bring a loved one or support person with you to your appointment.
Additional Visits
We want to be as comprehensive as possible in addressing your individual needs and giving you the tools you need to succeed. That's why we encourage all patients to attend two or three additional sessions. Learn more about counseling, classes and support groups.
