Know the signs and symptoms of heart attack and get help right away if you experience them.
Signs of Heart Attack
- Chest discomfort that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. You may feel uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
- Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
- Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort
- Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness
Signs of Heart Attack in Women
As with men, the most common heart attack symptom in women is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.
Women are less likely than men to believe they're having a heart attack and more likely to delay in seeking emergency treatment.
